As best I can determine, MXM has generally been discontinued for many of the latest laptops. And in those that still use it, an MXM card other than those installed by the OEM probably won't work or work correctly. So I think it's safest to assume that a discrete graphics card installed by an OEM likely cannot be upgraded even if it uses an MXM bay. I've installed a Quadro M2000M,... it rocks Doom in the primary slot but the blood in the eyes glitch-mod soon loses its 'charm'.... in the secondary MXM slot it doesn't show at all in Bios and eGPU software fails to switch it on. Lenovo is indeed using MXM 3.0 Type B slot electrically, but they seem to customise it quite heavily - mostly around VBIOS/SBIOS interaction and also subtle but vital things likeThis precludes the use of any third-party MXM cards.
